A Customized Experience to Suit Your Needs

Contact lenses can be an excellent choice for patients with refractive errors whose lives are not always glasses compatible. Contact lenses can offer the same vision correction and clarity that glasses can with improved freedom and comfort.

We offer complete contact lens exams and fittings so you can feel confident and comfortable wearing contact lenses.

What Happens During an Exam?

When you come in and see us for a contact lens exam, we will perform a few tests to ensure that contact lenses are a good option for you and your eyes. First, your optometrist will perform a visual acuity test to pinpoint the level of vision correction you require.

Next, your optometrist will ask you about your lifestyle and any preferences you might have so we can narrow down what type of contact lens might suit you best. There are several different types of standard contact lenses:

  • Disposable: Disposable lenses come in daily, weekly, and monthly wear. They are made of a soft, flexible plastic that allows oxygen to pass through to the cornea to improve comfort and eye health.
  • Extended Wear: Extended wear lenses are soft contacts that are made to be worn overnight or continuously for up to 30 days. It is important to remember to periodically give your eyes a rest from your extended wear lenses.
  • Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses: Rigid lenses are longer lasting and more durable than soft lenses, and may provide you with sharper clearer vision. However, they may not be as comfortable initially, so you may have to wear them a few times before your eyes fully adjust.

To help you select the best contact lenses to suit your needs, your optometrist will also take detailed measurements of your eyes. Your optometrist will use various instruments and equipment to measure the curvature of your eyes. These measurements allow your optometrist to pinpoint any irregularities that could mean you will require specialty lenses.

If you do need specialty lenses, Dr. Carly has extensive experience with hard-to-fit lenses and will be able to recommend the option best for your eyes!
