Keep Your Child’s Eye Health in the Foreground

Without proper vision or the tools to correct issues early on, your child’s ability to learn effectively may be compromised. Monitoring your child’s eyes can significantly improve the chances of fixing vision problems early helping to ensure continued quality of life.

If your child’s eyes display refractive errors that require vision correction, we have a large inventory of stylish frames for them to choose from.

Your child should have their eyes examined several times before they begin school, and annually after that, to help maintain good eye health. Doing so can help correct or mitigate any issues before they have a chance to worsen.

There are a few behaviors children may exhibit that could indicate they are having trouble with their vision or eye health. Book an appointment today if your child begins to do any of the following:

  • Excessive eye rubbing (not just when they are tired)
  • Holding objects very close to their face or sitting close to the TV
  • Displaying poor hand/eye coordination
  • Complaining about regular headaches
  • Squinting or closing one eye when reading or watching TV
  • Has discolored or watery eyes

It never hurts to take your child for an eye exam if you suspect that your child may be experiencing vision problems.

Children’s Eye Exam Schedule

Regular eye exams throughout childhood play a critical role in your child’s development and allow potential problems to be addressed quickly and effectively.

When your child is approximately 6 months old, you should take them for their first eye exam. Their second eye exam should occur when they are in preschool, between the ages of about 3 and 5 years old. These exams look for a variety of potential issues, including testing for misaligned eyes (such as strabismus or amblyopia), refractive errors, and focusing problems. Getting these issues addressed during early childhood can help set your child up for success.

Once your child begins school, they should have their eyes examined annually to monitor for changes and provide suitable treatment for any eye diseases or conditions.
